Hohenzollernstrasse (Düren)

The Hohenzollern road in the district town Düren ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ) is an ancient city road . It begins on Kölnstrasse and ends on Bonner Strasse . In the further course it leads over Friedrichstrasse and Nideggener Strasse south out of the city center. It is classified as federal highway 264 .

At the confluence of Hohenzollernstrasse / Kölnstrasse is the main post office, most of which are now rented out. A shopping center was built in 2011/2012 on the site where the former post office buildings were demolished. A remnant of the city wall , which is under monument protection, is barely noticeable behind houses in the southern area .

The street runs in front of the former city ​​wall on the eastern edge of the city center. An old town tower between Hohenzollernstrasse and Am Pletzerturm , the Pletzergasse tower, testifies to this .

The “Köln-Obertor-Promenade”, which was laid out in 1834, used to run along this street. On July 31, 1896, the city council decided to name the street after the ruling family of the Hohenzollern .
