Hollow lime tree in Obermarbach
The hollow linden is a distinctive old tree in Obermarbach and a registered natural monument in Upper Bavaria . The linden tree stands northeast of Petershausen in the Obermarbach district in the Dachau district on a ravine .
description
The tree has a strong, largely hollow, short and sharply sloping trunk. A thick branch has broken out on one side, which is still evidenced by a large cavity. Several strong branches emerge from the trunk, forming a vital crown. The linden tree is secured by numerous strong traction roots on the slope side, which slopes down at 45 °. The linden tree had a trunk circumference of 10.2 meters in 1994 and its age is estimated at 300–400 years.
In a tree guide, the linden tree is described as “one of the most bizarre tree shapes in Germany”, and in another as “unique in Europe”.
Except for the genus Linde, there is no more precise definition in any of the relevant reference works .
