Hollow foot tubers

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The hollow foot boletus ( Boletinus ), also called scaly boletus , are an obsolete genus from the family of the thick bolete relatives (Boletaceae). In the meantime they are counted among the smeared tubers ( Suillus ). In Central Europe there is only one type of the earlier hollow foot bolete, the hollow foot bolete ( Suillus cavipes ).

features

The hollow foot boletus are smaller to medium thick bolete relatives, usually remaining long hemispherical and with a blunt and low hump on their hat. The hats are yellow, gold, dark to reddish brown, initially felty and soon tear open in scales. The tubes are yellow, then greenish-yellow, relatively short and difficult to separate from the hat meat. The flesh is pale yellow, invariable when broken and has a neutral taste.

Occurrence

The hollow foot tubers are mostly bound to larches ( mycorrhizal partners ). They grow on acidic soils from July to October. Very often found in mountain areas (Valais), not infrequently in association with the gray larch boletus and the golden bolete.

determination

The hollow foot tubers can be identified very well by their small size, their wide-meshed pores and their location ( larches ).

Usability

The hollow foot boletus are edible, but not very productive. But they are ideal as a filling mushroom in a mixed mushroom dish, as well as to dry or as an insert in a mushroom salad.
