The smeared boletus ( Suillus ) are a genus of mushrooms from the family of smeared boletus relatives .

The type is the butter boletus ( Suillus luteus ).

features

The smeared cap mushrooms are medium-sized, soft-fleshed cap mushrooms, the hymenophore of which is designed as tubes. The hat skin becomes greasy to slimy in most species, at least with age, but it can also be tomentose. The dry, slimy stalk in some species can have a ring or glandular point formed by a velum partiale , the two features can also occur together. The stem is usually full. The tube layer can be colored yellow, olive or light orange, there are often pronounced gray tones, the size of the pores is variable.

ecology

The bonsai are mycorrhiza- formers that are associated with conifers , but they are often closely tied to a tree species. Some species such as the Douglas fir Röhrling ( p lakei ) were with their host trees in areas abducted in which they originally did not occur.

species

The genus includes around 50 species worldwide. In Europe 36  taxa occur or are to be expected there.
