Hohnsen (Hildesheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hohnsen (shortened from Hohenhusen ) was a village in what is now the city of Hildesheim .

The settlement was roughly at the point where the bridge over the Innerste is located on today's “Hohnsen” road . After the establishment of the new town , the residents left the village and settled in the newly founded town, so that Hohnsen became a desert . The Hohnser Mühle, the last remnant of the village, was operated as a paper mill by the Hildesheim Old Town Council until 1632 , when citizens of the Neustadt set it on fire. Since 1889 the street leading from the Goschentor to Ochtersum has been officially called "Hohnsen", after having been popularly called "Hohnser Weg" since 1875. Next to the street, the Hohnsenschule elementary school and the Hohnsensee lake created by gravel mining are named after her.
