Holy Barbarians was a rock band founded in 1996 by singer Ian Astbury (The Cult), among others . Astbury founded the band with three musicians from the USA: guitarist Patrick Sugg together with the brothers Matt and Scott Garrett. Together they only produced one album called "Cream".

Astbury chose the band's name as a reference to the 1959 novella by Lawrence Lipton . The album was recorded at Parr Street Studios in Astbury's hometown of Liverpool . The album's title, "Cream", referred to a local pub that the band frequented while recording. Astbury and Sugg wrote all of the tracks on the album together after first meeting on the Wayne Kramer Show in the US.
