The Holy Trinity Church is a former Anglican church building in the hamlet Coverham in the district of Richmondshire ( North Yorkshire ) in the UK . The church has been in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust since 1987 and is classified as a Grade II * cultural monument .

history

The core of the church was built in its current structural form in the 13th century, but some parts of it have older Anglo-Saxon masonry, which indicates a previous building at the site. The construction of the church is likely to be related to the Coverham Premonstratensian monastery immediately to the east of the churchyard , which was donated by local nobles in 1212. The Holy Trinity Church was probably incorporated into the monastery.

A south aisle was later added to the choir and nave of the church; the tower dates from the 15th century. Large parts of the choir were rebuilt in 1854, and the north wall of the nave was rebuilt in 1878. The church was abandoned on September 1, 1985 by the Church of England and in 1987 transferred to the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
