Wooden mountain tower
The Holzbergturm is a lookout tower on the 90 m high Holzberg in the Malenter district of Neversfelde in Schleswig-Holstein.
Old tower
The first wooden mountain tower was designed in 2000 by members of the Neversfelde Association. Construction work began in June 2004 and was completed in spring 2005. The 28.5 meter tall larch tower was opened in July 2005. The construction costs were 40,000 euros. It was open all year round with free admission. 140 steps of a steel spiral staircase led to the 64 m 2 viewing platform of the tower at a height of 24 meters. From here one had an overview of Malente, the Dieksee and the surrounding Holstein Switzerland .
At the beginning of August 2016, however, the structure was closed as a construction site for an indefinite period. The tower was demolished in May 2017 because the larch wood, which had been infected by the fungus, could not be rehabilitated.
New tower
Soon after the demolition of the first wooden mountain tower, planning began for the construction of a new steel tower on the same site. This was originally supposed to be 3 meters higher than the old tower; completion was scheduled for Whitsun 2018. However, the construction was delayed due to necessary rescheduling. The new completion date was initially Whitsun 2019, later the end of July 2019. The new wooden mountain tower was finally completed on March 19, 2020 and is now 30 meters higher than the old one. The opening took place on May 2, 2020; since then the tower has been freely accessible.
Former Bismarck Tower
The wooden mountain tower was built right next to the remains of the foundations of the Bismarck tower Malente, which was built in 1908 and demolished in 1918 .
