The covered wooden bridge Fulenbach – Murgenthal crosses the Aare and connects the Solothurn community of Fulenbach with the community of Murgenthal on the Aargau side of the river . The 4.3 m high bridge spans the river in two openings, each about 45 m wide.

Building

It is a truss bridge with so-called How girders , built by Gribi and Herzog from Burgdorf. The construction plans can be viewed online in the directory of Swiss Timber Bridges. The bridge, which opened on July 5, 1863, is listed in the inventory of historic traffic routes in Switzerland (IVS) as a structure of national importance, as it is one of the oldest of the only twelve Howe bridges in Switzerland that have survived.

Resilience

In 1863 the bridge was opened for a load of 12 tons. In 1937, the 4.85 m wide bridge was reinforced with trusses and a footbridge 1.52 m wide was attached downstream. After the renovation in 1983, the load-bearing capacity of the bridge was 12 tons. After a further renovation in 2008, a limit of max. 3.5 tons total weight per vehicle required. This demand causes displeasure among farmers in the area and the fire brigade. Another bridge location has also been discussed for decades. In September 2016, the four neighboring communities of Boningen, Fulenbach, Wolfwil and Murgenthal decided that this should come to rest at the Bännli.
