The wooden church of Plopiș ( Biserica de lemn din Plopiș ) is one of the wooden churches protected as UNESCO World Heritage in the Maramureș in the village of Plopiș in the Romanian municipality of Șișești . It is dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

history

The church was built in 1798, making it the youngest of the World Heritage churches in Maramureș. It was handed over to the Romanian Orthodox Church after 1945, having previously been a Greek Catholic. It was restored in 1961 and in 1990/1991. It has been part of the world cultural heritage since 1999. Protected as a monument in Romania under number MM-II-mA-04604.

Plant and equipment

The 17 m long and 7 m wide church has a 47 m high tower. It is richly frescoed inside .
