The wooden church of Ieud Deal ( Romanian Biserica din Ieud Deal ) is one of the wooden churches protected as UNESCO World Heritage in the Maramureş in the municipality of Ieud in northern Romania . It is dedicated to the Birth of Mary ( Naşterea Maicii Domnului ).

history

The hilltop church was probably built in the second decade of the 17th century. It has been part of the world cultural heritage since 1999 with seven other wooden churches in the region and is protected as a monument in Romania under the number MM-II-mA-04588.

Plant and equipment

The church is almost 12 meters long and over 7 meters wide. It holds 340 people. The building is completely painted with frescoes that are traced back to the traveling painter Alexandru Ponehalschi and that date back to 1782.
