The Holzknechtmuseum , which opened in 1988 in Laubau south of Ruhpolding, documents the development of forest work from the beginning of the saline era to the present day. The museum is operated by the Zweckverband Holzknechtmuseum Ruhpolding, whose members are the museum's friends' association, the Upper Bavarian District , the Traunstein District and the Ruhpolding community. On the outdoor area (approx. 30,000 m²) connected to the museum, there are numerous transferred and reconstructed forest huts from the area of the former Traunstein saltworks . Methods for bringing and processing wood are also shown on the open-air site .
