The Plakinidae are a family from the class of horned silica sponges (Demospongiae). They are the only family of the order Homosclerophorida, which is the only order of the subclass Homoscleromorpha ( Gr .: uniformly hard). A total of 11 species are counted among the Plakinidae.

Members of the Plakinidae have a membrane between the epidermis and the layers further inside. This means that the epithelial and flagellum cells on the outside are no longer directly connected to the mesohyl , and a direct exchange of substances or cells is probably no longer possible.

Furthermore, the Plakinidae have only small, but very evenly formed spicules . The larvae of the Plakinidae appear as free-swimming, two-part blastula (so-called amphiblastula).
