Dignitaries

With dignitaries (plural) are called citizens , by virtue of their prominent social status in the predominantly small-town environment , but also larger villages, enjoy great reputation and there where appropriate, informal influence can exercise. Typical examples are the teacher (schoolmaster), the pastor , the judge , the doctor , the veterinarian , the postmaster , the largest local farmer or a factory owner.

Definition according to Max Weber

According to Max Weber's definition, dignitaries are citizens who live for politics without having to live on it, since they draw their income from real estate and property .

Holding a political office did not bring any income. Sometimes considerable costs, but it was associated with a further gain in reputation , also for the family of the official.
