Hood.de is a German virtual marketplace . Hood started operating as an online auction house in 2000 and is now active in German-speaking countries. At the end of the 90s, the founder of Hood.de, Ryan Hood, did not like the fact that the platforms that were emerging at the time were constantly raising their fees and, in his opinion, offered poor customer service. He wanted to counter this with an alternative based on the example of Robin Hood and founded Hood.de in 1999 .

Hood.de, as a direct competitor of the eBay auction platform , is today one of the largest online marketplaces in Germany with over 5 million offers daily and over 7 million customers.

In November 2012 Hood Media GmbH filed a lawsuit against Amazon's “ price parity clause ”.

In June 2017, the Karstadt department store chain and the Austrian parent company Signa Retail took over the majority of Hood.de.

In May 2019 Hood.de and Klarna entered into a partnership that enables Hood.de customers to pay in installments or by invoice.

Business model

Hood.de is an internet platform for the sale of any goods. The company itself only acts as an intermediary for a sales contract between seller and buyer. Hood.de does not charge any listing or basic fees for offering an item. In addition, private sellers do not pay any sales commission. A sales commission is charged for commercial sales, which depends on the booked shop package and category selection. In addition, every seller can take advantage of premium services such as highlighting and marketing for their product range on Hood.de.

Offers can be presented as an instant purchase, optionally with a negotiation function, auction, power auction , Dutch auction and in your own Hood shop. You can also buy using a price proposal. Buyers and sellers can rate each transaction.

Hood.de offers various shop solutions for commercial dealers. An extensive partner network of shipping, payment and multi-channel service providers enables convenient cataloging of products and management of orders.
