The Hoofden are part of the North Sea .

De Hoofden (plural of Dutch Hoofd = head, head) was originally a Dutch name for the chalk cliffs of Dover . This gave rise to the name for the southernmost part of the North Sea , the sea area immediately north of the Dover Strait between Dover in the west and Calais and Dunkirk in the east.

The sea ​​battle at Kentish Knock of 1652 is called the Battle of De Hoofden in Dutch .
