from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hope Technology Ltd. is a British manufacturer of bicycle components, based in Barnoldswick in the county of Lancashire . The company is known for particularly high-quality brakes , hubs , bottom brackets , chainrings and lighting and focuses on the mountain bike sector .

history

Ian Weatherill and Simon Sharp were avid trail riders and both worked for Rolls-Royce Aerospace . In 1989 they left the company and founded IPCO, their own tool factory. IPCO supplied tools for local aircraft construction. Unsatisfied with the cantilever brakes on their MTBs, the two engineers decided to develop their own brakes together with their technician Owen Hardisty.

After two years of developing bicycle parts, the founders decided to rename their company Hope Technology and in 1991 brought the first disc brakes and hubs onto the market. The mechanical disc brake was the first product Hope launched.

Hope produces its parts locally in Lancashire with a staff of 140 people.

Products

Hope provides components especially for the upscale mountain bike sector. Her One of Hope's innovations is a freewheel body that can accommodate the broadband XX1 cassette from SRAM . They follow the trend towards 1 × 11 or 1 × 12 gears in the MTB sector, which require particularly large sprockets on the freewheel.

In 2003 Hope built the prototype of a downhill bike . The project turned into a children's bike and now an enduro MTB. In 2017, the company presented the HB-160, its first series -produced complete carbon bike .
