Their own record labels "Axtone Records" and "Refune Music" were also active with the release. Collaborations can be found with Kid Ink and Pusha T , among others . A studio album was first discussed in spring 2014. Axwell commented on the rumors in the form of a tweet :

"It's official. Me and @Ingrosso are finishing our first album and Zane played a clip for you last night ... We're looking forward to this new journey!"

- Axwell : Twitter

As a result of the founding of the project, the duo released the song We Come, We Rave, We Love as a free track on May 26, 2014 . Furthermore, they gave an insight into their other production Something New , which was traded as This Time We Can't Go Home , on several appearances . Both the release and the premiere went hand in hand with much speculation that the album would be released in the same year. Between May and June 2014 a promotional campaign for the following single On My Way started . At the same time it was announced that collaborations with, among others, Elton John and Ryan Tedder were in the works.

On July 8, 2014, the duo presented a selection of new songs during their performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York following an announcement on Twitter. The songs This Time , Dream Bigger and On My Way were among them . In the same month the song Sun Is Shining premiered that quickly made its rounds on the Internet.

In September 2014, the online magazine “The Banging Beats” published an article that addressed the situation of the Axwell Λ Ingrosso project and dated the album's release on December of the same year.

Also in September 2014 they announced that they had signed contracts with “ Def Jam Recordings ” and “ EMI Group ”. As a result, the album should have been released for spring 2015. Zane Lowe from the BBC said on his radio show that the duo had already presented him with a sample of the album and that he thought it was great.

On November 26, 2014, the album's lead single, Something New , had its world premiere and was released worldwide as the project's first single by mid-December 2014. In March 2015, the studio version of the song On My Way was premiered and released as a single that same month. Also on March 12, 2015, the stylistically different song Can't Hold Us Down was officially released. All three previous songs were referred to as non-album singles up to this point.

2015: Temporary dating to autumn

At the end of March 2015, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso played the vocals version of the song Dream Bigger for the first time , in which the American musician Pharrell Williams participated, as well as the instrumental track Dawn . The following month brought an appearance at the Coachella Festival, where they appeared together with their songwriters Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir as Vargas & Lagola . Here the quartet premiered the track More Than You Know , which at that time did not contain a main part.

In May 2015 the track Sun Is Shining was used as a promotional song for the fashion brand H&M , which indicated an early release. This took place on June 12, 2015. Sun Is Shining was able to far exceed the range of its predecessors.

In August 2015, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso spoke in an interview with “WiLD 949” about their plans for the studio album. On the one hand, the publication should take place shortly after the end of summer, on the other hand, there was no title yet. A collaboration with Steve Angello wouldn't be work, but they would like collaborations with Skrillex and Calvin Harris . In an interview with the online magazine "Phouse", the duo dated the publication to the following months and announced that Angello would have had a hand in one or the other track.

In October 2015, the promotional campaign for the song This Time , a new version of the track Something New, started . The entire instrumental was revised and rap parts from the US rapper Pusha T were added. At the same time there was a change of management, which is why the release of the album was postponed for the time being. Instead, a release of the song Dream Bigger for December 31, 2015 was worked towards. However, an instrumental version has been made available here for the time being.

2016: Temporary cancellation

A collaboration with the Russian DJ and producer Shapov, which was traded as Where I Belong , has been played in a series of performances since 2014 . In February 2016, the Russian commented on the song and said that the production was planned as an album track. He cited Axwell's perfectionist style as the reason for the long wait. At the same time, the songs Barricade and Dark River, long suspected to be Axwell Λ Ingrosso productions, were announced as solo singles. According to the credits, however, both tracks were created as a collaboration.

Between April 2016 and May 2016, the duo released two more pre-singles. These formed the vocal version of the song Dream Bigger , in which Pharrell Williams contributed his voice, as well as a new edition of the song Thinking About You . The previously known version of the song followed a short time later as a festival version . In the summer of 2016, the Shapov collaboration finally turned out to be an Axwell solo release with the title Belong . So the plans for an album track seemed to be off the table. A remode version of the track, which was created together with Years, is based on an ID that was traded as an Axwell---Ingrosso production for a long time.

Also in June 2016, Axwell responded to a tweet from a fan who asked about the album's release. Axwell replied:

"We have already released 10 songs - this is the album"

- Axwell : Twitter

In autumn 2016 the duo played two new productions. On the one hand, this is the song Dreamer , on the other hand the instrumental song How Do You Feel Right Now . Only a short time later, a statement from the ex-manager of the duo, Amy Thomson, followed, who announced via Twitter that new information about the album release would follow in January of the following year. At the same time, she announced the release of the song I Love You for spring 2017.

2017: publication

After the song I Love You and the first song with an official feature ( Kid Ink ) were released in April 2017 , a 4-track EP was announced for May 2017. Behind this hid the so-called More Than You Know EP . In addition to the song of the same name, the tracks Renegade , How Do You Feel Right Now and Dawn could be found here. More Than You Know was able to develop into one of the summer hits of the year, with which the expectations for an album returned.

On July 5, 2017, the duo finally announced that an album was coming. On Instagram they showed both covers and a tracklist that contained all previous singles. The publication in Japan took place on July 28, 2017. In other countries the album was sometimes only released on vinyl and almost unofficially. Boxpark Shoreditch in London offered a pre-order for which there was a signed edition. More pre-order offers should follow, but due to the completion of the song Dreamer and the planned single release, the release of the album was delayed again. The album only hit stores on December 8, 2017 with the release of Dreamer .

Title & artwork

The artwork is based on the covers of the single of the same name and the EP. While the artists cannot be recognized on the EP, they were shown on the cover of the single. The album cover is almost identical to this one.

The focus of the cover is a bathtub, above which a lambda (Λ) is attached, which acts as the duo's logo in the broadest sense. This provides the purple-red-yellow-colored light that poorly illuminates the room. Several objects can be seen on the floor that indicate a previous night of partying. This impression is reinforced by Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, who are obviously hungover in the tub. The title and the artist are in the center of the cover in gray letters.

Single releases

Something New

The first single from the album was released on November 27, 2014. The progressive house-heavy song was premiered in the summer of the same year and several previews were also released by the duo themselves. The music duo Vargas & Lagola worked here both as authors and singers. Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare are behind the project . Since Axwell von Ingrosso's first single, they have been recurring guest musicians. Initially known as This Time We Can't Go Home , the song was already gaining a fan base before it was released. Both the design and the atmosphere should be very similar to the style of the previous project. At the same time, the song serves as a promotional song for the “ Beats-by-Dre- Presents: - # SoloSelfie” campaign.

The first music video of the song was released on December 22, 2014. This is a lyric video and reached over 20 million views. The official music video followed in February 2015. This is mostly recorded in PoV style and shows two motorcyclists who get caught in a traffic jam and steer past the cars in a slalom. It is noticeable that every driver hears the song Something New and sometimes even stands on the cars and dance to the track. Towards the end of the video, the PoV view is converted into a third-person perspective and shows how the bikers overcome the traffic jam and disappear into the distance on the highway. The duo's logo can be seen on the back of their jackets, which suggests that Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso are hidden under the helmets. The official music video has over 5 million views.

Something New was able to reach the singles charts in numerous European countries. Among other things, it was ranked 22nd in Great Britain, 20th in Sweden and 56th in France. In Germany, the track was able to advance to number 90 on the airplay charts. In Italy the single went gold with 15 thousand units sold and in Sweden 80 thousand units sold double platinum.

On my way

The second pre-release single of the album is entitled On My Way and was released on March 12, 2015. The promotional campaign for the song sung by Salem Al Fakir started in the summer of the previous year. Axwell posted a picture of 16 listed addresses from New York City on Instagram , on which several lines of text were deposited. Now it was the fans' job to collect these lines of text. Also in June 2014, the lyrics and sheet music of the track were sent to every subscriber to their official website. Axwell also gave insights into the song on his Instagram profile. In August 2014 they played a revised version of the song.

In an article published by The Banging Beats, the single was dated the same year. After initially focusing on the release of Something New , the promotional campaign took a back seat. Towards the end of 2014, the duo played a revised version of On My Way that was made more commercial. Several clips based on scenes from the music video were released in March of the following year until the release was officially announced. After premiering on BBC, the song was released as a single on March 12, 2015.

The official music video was shot in August 2014 and promoted in early 2015. Christian Larson acted as the director, with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso playing the main roles. Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir can also be seen as guest actors in the video. Jacob Swan Hyan, Svana Gisla and Amy Thomson were involved as producers on the project. The two protagonists can each be seen as bodybuilders. Both have their own gait and fundamentally differ in their image. Axwell is portrayed as a proletarian and Ingrosso as a hard-working, almost down to earth person. An argument arises during strength training, resulting in a mutual challenge to fight. As a result, there is a hype about the duel, including bets for high sums of money. After the fight is decided in favor of Sebastian Ingrosso, he takes the profit and quickly disappears from the building and sits in his car, in which Axwell is already waiting for him. Here it turns out that they are in cahoots and are now sharing the high amount of profits. An outsider observes this procedure and sounds the alarm. Axwell and Ingrosso do not manage to escape in the car because it does not start. The further course can be seen in the video of the follow-up single Can't Hold Us Down . After two years, the music video was viewed over 13 million times.

The track was only able to build on the success of Something New to a limited extent. It reached a similar standard as a festival anthem, but was able to enter far fewer countries than the debut single. In Great Britain, On My Way entered 100th place, in Sweden the song even climbed two places higher than its predecessor at 18th place.

Can't Hold Us Down

Silvana Imam, featured on the vocal version of Can't Hold Us Down

The next single was released on March 12, 2015 and is entitled Can't Hold Us Down . The song premiered live in June 2014. It was quickly compared to the Swedish house mafia track Greyhound and was considered the Axwell Λ Ingrosso solo version of it. A promo release of the song already took place on November 17th, 2014. Compared to the two predecessors, Can't Hold Us Down is more electro-heavy and contains only a few, distorted vocals. In addition to Axwell and Ingrosso, the musician Klas Åhlund is specified as the writer.

The release of a remix pack has been scheduled for May 2015. Here, too, the Bosnian-Swedish producer Salvatore Ganacci contributed an interpretation, which the duo also brought into the studio for a vocal version of the song. The US rapper Pusha T and the Swedish rapper Silvana Imam also contributed rap parts. The result was presented on March 28, 2015 at the Ultra Music Festival . The release took place on May 29, 2015 as a stream in selected countries.

The official music video was uploaded on March 13, 2015, one day after the duo's official single release. The same crew was used here as for On My Way . The video is a sequel to On My Way and seamlessly follows on from its plot. The two protagonists flee from the people who bet on them with money. A woman involved in the matter gives Axwell and Ingrosso a head start with a car bomb, but after the explosion fades, one of the pursuers begins to dance, which unsettles the duo for a moment, but before a reaction is shown, the words “To be continued ". This actually points to a sequel that has not yet appeared.

Sun is shining

The fourth single was released on June 12, 2015 and was released under the title Sun Is Shining . The song was sung and written by Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare. The duo premiered the track in a live performance in June of the previous year, whereupon it was speculated that Sun Is Shining is the long-awaited collaboration with Elton John and Ryan Tedder . At the Coachella Festival 2015, however, they brought Al Fakir and Pontare on stage, thereby confirming his participation. In the months that followed, the song repeatedly served as a closing track, to which animations behind her DJ desk symbolized a sunrise.

At the beginning of April 2015, the fashion brand H&M announced that they would be cooperating with Axwell Λ Ingrosso. In the course of this it was announced that Sun IS Shining would appear in the summer and should serve as a promotional song. The commercial aired for the first time on April 30, 2015, and a single release has not yet been announced. On June 2, 2015, Axwell posted a picture on "Twitter" that was a frame from the official music video on which the title of the song can be recognized. He also wrote that the publication is not far away.

At the same time as the single was released on June 12, 2015, the official music video was also released. This can be described much more than a lyric video; the focus is on small pieces of paper on which the individual lines of text are written. The pieces of paper can initially be found individually in different places until the beginning of the chorus, countless pieces of paper waft around the streets of the city and surprise the residents. On the roof of a house, the duo can be seen writing the text on the pieces of paper. The music video has over 81 million views, far exceeding the success of your first videos.

The track was also more successful commercially. In Belgium, Norway, Hungary and the Netherlands, among others, Sun Is Shining was able to enter the top 10. In Sweden the single reached number one in the charts and in Germany the song was the first single in the charts. The single went gold in Poland and Denmark for 30,000 and 10,000 units sold, respectively, platinum in Italy for 50,000 sales, double platinum in Norway with 20,000 records sold, and quintuple platinum in Sweden for 200,000 sales.

This time

Pusha T, feature of the single This Time

This Time was released on November 6, 2015 as the fifth pre-release single from the album. The American rapper Pusha T worked here . Behind the track is a modified version of their debut Something New with additional rap parts and a completely different instrumental. It was played for the first time before the original version was released, in July 2014, and the collaboration with Pusha T was also announced at that time. In mid-October 2015, Axwell Λ Ingrosso announced more details about the single on the "wecantgohome" page made for the single. They write:

"We want to recognize the fact that so many innocent children across the globe are refused to go home in a time of chaos and sommotion. With the release of our new single 'This Time', all of our net proceed will be directed to support innocent children through UNHCR. We simply want to be a part of making the world a better place for those forced away from their homes. Please join us in helping the children get to a safe and loving place. Help by listening to our new single "This Time". "

- Axwell Λ Ingrosso : wecantgohome.com

Thus, they announced that all proceeds resulting from the single This Time is obtained at the high Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations would go. A few days later, they published a first official preview.

At the same time as the single was released on November 6, 2015, a lyric video also appeared on her YouTube account. In addition to the lyrics, this also shows a number of live performances by the duo. These are distorted, adapted to the lambda band logo. Landscape shots can be seen during the vocal parts. At the end of the video, the this-time hashtag is displayed, which refers to the charity campaign. The music video has over two million views after two years.

This Time reached number 73 on the Swedish singles chart. In 2017 the song became part of the soundtrack for the video game " WWE 2K17 ".

Dream Bigger

Pharrell Williams, feature of the single Dream Bigger

Dream Bigger followed on December 31, 2015 as the next promo single on the album. Behind this is the instrumental version of a vocal track of the same name, which premiered in June 2014. As a result of several plays, the song spread under the title Music Doing Doing on the Internet. After numerous rumors of the release on New Year's Eve, Axwell officially announced the release on December 28, 2015. Even before the release, numerous stylistic parallels to bands like Justice and Daft Punk were noticed.

In March 2015, the duo played the final version of the song for the first time, which is a collaboration with the American musician Pharrell Williams . They already worked with Williams during their Swedish House Mafia times, which resulted in the track One (Your Name) . On April 29, 2016, the Dream Bigger vocal version followed as the official sixth single.

Music videos were produced for both versions, the instrumental version and the version with Pharrell Williams. The video of the instrumental is based on the style of the lyric video from This Time , with only animations and visual effects being used. The official music video, however, shows tour footage and lyrics. For the first drop, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso are shown how they dance on the plane or in the backstage area. The second drop is based on excerpts from their live sets. Both music videos have almost 1.5 million views.

The placements in the single charts followed those of the predecessors. For one thing, they didn't make it to the charts in their home country, while in Belgium it was only enough to enter the lower half.

Thinking About You

On May 27, 2016, the song Thinking About You was released as the next single. The British singer-songwriter Richard Archer and the British singer Chloe Leone came here as guest musicians, while Jacob Tillberg and Sebastian Furrer contributed as authors. The roots of the song go back to 2010, when Axwell played it at Monster Massive in London on October 23, 2010. After the one-time play, the track was forgotten until the duo wrote the song in a new form July 4, 2015 back in their program. Not only was the style different from the original version, the male vocals were re-sung and a female voice was added. Furthermore, the new drum loops were heavily inspired by the 1972 song Think (Abourt It) by Lyn Collins .

In spring 2016 the release was announced and the final version was premiered. However, it was a never played version that is much more commercial than the one that had previously been heard in their sets. As a result of the redesign, the demand for the 2010 and 2015 versions increased. Axwell Λ Ingrosso officially published the latter in the form of a festival edit on June 8, 2016. After a fan asked him privately about the original version, Axwell sent him a link to it, but it was unmastered. Nevertheless, the "Monster Massive Version" spread quickly and received very positive feedback.

The song's official music video was released on May 31, 2016. This quickly received positive reviews and received a lot of attention due to its design. Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso play the leading roles here for the first time since Can't Hold Us Down . It starts with a cleaner who the duo sees on TV; however, both faces have been retouched . She then goes into a public sanitary area to clean there. After a few seconds, she unceremoniously stands next to a passerby at a urinate, whereupon he looks at her confused. She turns her head to him and Axwell's face appears on hers. Axwell starts singing the song and the passerby continues with the vocals. Ingrosso's face appears on that of a businessman. In the course of the song, their faces appear on other people and different parts of the body, which sometimes leads to grotesque situations. After almost a year and a half, the video was viewed over seven million times.

Thinking About You was able to get the two DJs in Sweden back into the official singles charts. There they placed on number 64, in Belgium they also reached the top 100.

Ich liebe dich

Kid Ink, feature of the single I Love You

The eighth single from More than You Know was released by Axwell Λ Ingrosso on February 10, 2017. It is titled I Love You and was created in collaboration with the US rapper Kid Ink and the US singer Madison Love. The authors Johnathan Carter Cunningham and Gerard Folkestad Taylor also contributed to the creation. The violin melody of the chorus is based on a sample from the 1997 song Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve . Stylistically, I Love You is much more poppy and is less based on electro-house traits than her other singles.

In an interview with 92.3 AMP Radio, the duo said that they met Madison Love in Los Angeles and that their voice was well suited for the track. After their vocals were produced on the instrumental, they realized that rappers would fit the scheme well, so they contacted Kid Ink. He was very open to the collaboration and joined the project without further ado. They presented the result for the first time on November 26, 2016 at Creamfields in Great Britain. In February of the following year, the studio version, like most of her other singles, premiered on "BBC Radio".

In addition to the normal version, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso also released a dub version that does not contain Kid Inks rap parts and an acoustic version.

The official music video was released on March 8, 2017. The director was Colin Tilley, who regularly directs Kid Inks videos. The video shows Kid Ink, who is seriously injured and escapes in a car. In a flashback he can be seen in a luxurious mansion living out an affair with three women. One evening one of the women seduces another, whereupon she drowns them in a bathtub. She picks up a gun and surprises Kid Ink, who is flirting with the third woman. She shoots him and the flashback ends. After one year, the video has over 8 million views.

I Love You reached the official singles charts in several European countries. In Sweden it was placed in the top 10, in Great Britain the track moved up to number 73 and reached the top of the US Billboard Electronic Charts. In Germany, the single advanced into the charts in several download portals.

Renegade

The track Renegade , which was sung and co-written by Salem Al Fakir, was released as a promo single on May 12, 2017 . Renegade is the latest production of the album , which also premiered in March of the same year. Stylistically, they orientated themselves on much quieter character traits than in their last singles. The design caused a sensation, KAt Bein from " Billboard Magazine " described the mood of the song as if " fooling around on a 70s shaggy carpet while champagne sweats in an ice bucket next to a neon fire."

The duo only played the song live once before its release in March 2017 in London. The release as a promo single took place in May 2017 as a result of the announcement of their More Than You Know EP on; so was Renegade previously offered for download and streaming. At the same time as the release, a preview of the lyric video was published.

On May 17, 2017, Axwell Λ Ingrosso released the lyric music video, which is also part of the later published Visual EP and thus a sequel to the official music video by More Than You Know . The protagonist is played by the Belgian actress and model Romi van Renterghem. The Belgian actor, director and film producer Nicolas Caeyers directed it . At his side was the designer Francesco Ragazzi. The protagonist is shown in the aftermath of a rave. She is in the sanitary area of the club, but appears to have orientation problems and is clearly unaware of her actions. On the walls and doors are the lines of songs. After six months, the video has around a million views.

More Than You Know

The song More Than You Know was released as the tenth single on May 26, 2017 . Richard Zastenker, Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir participated as authors alongside Axwell and Ingrosso. Singer-songwriter Kristoffer Fogelmark was part of the project as a singer . The song premiered in 2015 at the Coachella Festival, at which time Pontare and Al Fakir could still be heard as singers. There was also no drop produced for the song. The final version was then played for the first time at the 2017 Ultra Music Festival.

The song developed into one of the summer hits of 2017. In several countries, including Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, they reached the top of the single charts with the single and sold over 1.5 million by the end of the year Units. The music video also became a success, with over 178 million views.

After the summer they released a Spanish-language version of the song, which was recorded with Sebastián Yatra and Cali & El Dandee. Several Latin pop influences are also used here. A new music video was also shot for this.

Dreamer

The last single from the album was released on December 8, 2017. This is called Dreamer and was created in collaboration with the singer-songwriter Trevor Guthrie . Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir as well as Elof Loelv joined the duo as songwriters. The song has been expected since October 2014, when Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso played it at ADE. At that time, however, the track was still based on a progressive house pattern, which was described as a flashback to the Swedish House Mafia era.

At the end of November 2016, Axwell announced on Facebook and Twitter after the track had been pushed into the background for the time being that the song would be released the following week. However, when he gave an insight into the song on Snapchat, it seemed to have been stylistically interpreted differently. The earlier progressive house drop has been converted into a more -than-you-know- like drop here. Due to the healthy resemblance to its predecessor, the single was given a hit potential.

Commercially, the song started similarly to the previous single with chart entries in several European countries and was initially only able to work its way up slowly.

reception

criticism

The release of the album was viewed rather critically. It was said that after the numerous postponements it could in no way live up to expectations. The focus was particularly on the rather poor release after the single chart success with More Than You Know as well as on the tracklist consisting only of songs that had already been released.

Commercial win

The studio album entered the official album charts in several European countries. This primarily affected the Scandinavian countries; It reached number 36 in Denmark, number 19 in Finland and number 16. In Norway it rose to number 11 in the dance and electronic charts. The streaming numbers on Spotify are between 2 million and a half Billion Views.
