Silvana Imam
Silvana Angelina Imam (* 1986 in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Swedish rapper . She is known for her feminist songs.
Life
Imam is the daughter of a Lithuanian mother and a Syrian father who was born in Lithuania. Her parents moved with her to Czechoslovakia , where her father came under pressure because of his political stance. Eventually, when Silvana Imam was four years old, they fled to the northern Swedish city of Kiruna and later went to Stockholm . They settled there in the suburb of Jakobsberg . At Stockholm University she graduated with a plan to become a teacher, one of English and psychology degree from.
In May 2013 she released her debut album Rekviem on the record label Playground Music . The second album Naturkraft followed in 2016, which was created in collaboration with her friend Beatrice Eli , among others . For this album she received the award as Artist of the Year at the Swedish Grammis Music Prize . It also received mostly positive reviews from critics. Her father initially had problems with Imams coming out as, but later changed his mind and now sometimes performs with his daughter.
From 2014 to 2016 she was accompanied by a film team that used the material to produce the documentary Silvana , which was finally published in 2017. From August 23, 2018, it was also shown in German cinemas. The film won the Guldbagge Film Prize in the “Best Documentary” category .
She released her album Helig Moder in February 2019, and it entered the Swedish album charts at number 13 . Imam released the album on their own record label after a dispute with their management. In July 2019, she became the first woman in 34 years to open the main stage at the Danish Roskilde Festival . In August she finally opened the Norwegian Øyafestival.
style
Imam is known for her political texts and appearances. In her works she criticizes, among other things, patriarchal structures and homophobia in society. Furthermore, she addresses racism, for example in her song I Min Zon . In this she raps: “15 million people in the world are called Mohamed, but what name do they want to see on their résumé?” She speaks out against the Sverigedemokraterna party more often during her appearances .
