Lyn Collins
Gloria Lavern "Lyn" Collins (born June 12, 1948 in Abilene , Texas , † March 13, 2005 in Los Angeles ) was an American soul singer , also called "The Female Preacher" or "The Sultry Siren of Funk" and before became known to all things through her collaboration with James Brown .
Career
Collins single Think (About It) peaked at number 9 on Billboard's R&B charts in 1972 and became an anthem for the burgeoning women's movement . Other singles and R&B hits included Mamma Feelgood , Take Me Just as I Am , How Long Can I Keep It Up (1973), Rock Me Again & Again & Again & Again & Again & Again (1974) and If You Don't Know Me by Now (1975), a cover version of Harold Melvin's 1972 hit and the Blue Notes . All of these recordings were produced by James Brown.
Think (About It) from the 1972 album of the same name still serves as a popular sampling basis for hip-hop and hip house because of five (so-called) breaks .
Collins died at the age of 56.
