Hopscotch polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hopser Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 28). The work was performed for the first time on September 6, 1846 in the Strüßl hall, in the building of the theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was written on the occasion of the so-called Graces Ball and also premiered at this event. The audience came in part from artistic circles. This was an opportunity for the composer to make himself heard in these circles, especially since he was denied access to the bourgeoisie, which belonged to the loyal followers of his father , who was competing with him . At the same time, Strauss wanted to address the youth with this dance. A hop dance was usually a polka. Back then, however, it was danced according to certain rules loved by young people.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 44 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
