Horace Davey, Davey Baron PC QC (* 29. August 1833 ; † 20th February 1907 ) was a British politician of the Liberal Party and a lawyer , who several years deputy in the House of Commons , and most recently as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary , due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 when Life Peer was also a member of the House of Lords .

Life

After attending the Rugby School Davey graduated in subjects Classical Studies and Mathematics at the University College of the University of Oxford . After studying law , he was admitted to the bar ( Inns of Court ) of Lincoln's Inn in 1861 and then took up a position as a barrister . For his legal services, he became Crown Attorney ( Queen's Counsel ) in 1875 and served as legal advisor to the University of Oxford between 1877 and 1893. In 1878 he also became a so-called "Bencher" for the Lincoln's Inn law firm.

On March 31, 1880 he was elected as a candidate for the Liberal Party to succeed Henry Drummond Wolff as a member of the House of Commons and represented the constituency of Christchurch until November 24, 1885 . In January 1886 he was appointed Solicitor General by Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone to succeed John Eldon Gorst and held this position until his replacement by Edward George Clarke a few months later. At the same time he was beaten to a Knight Bachelor's degree in 1886 and has since had the addition of "Sir".

After he had run unsuccessfully for a House of Commons mandate in both the constituency of Ipswich and the constituency of Stockport in 1886 , Davey was elected member of the House of Commons in the constituency of Stockton-on-Tees on December 21, 1888 and was a member of the House of Commons as a representative of the Liberal Party on July 4, 1892.

In 1893 he was appointed judge ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) at the Court of Appeal , the court of appeal responsible for England and Wales, where he worked until 1894. He was also appointed Privy Councilor in 1893 .

Last Davey was a Letters Patent from August 13, 1894 due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a life peer with the title Baron Davey , of Fernhurst in the County of Sussex for a member of the House of Lords in the nobility called and worked until his Death in 1907 as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary . In 1905 he became a member ( fellow ) of the British Academy .
