Horizontal filter well in Senftenberg

A horizontal filter well (also known as a horizontal well) is a type of well in which the groundwater is conveyed through horizontally running pipes. As a rule, several pipes lead to a vertical collecting shaft through which the water is taken. In horizontal wells , various methods can be distinguished.

The main area of application of horizontal filter wells is the economic use of thin, very productive aquifers. Compared to the use of several vertical wells, a horizontal well requires less space on the surface. Further advantages are a long service life due to the low critical filter entry speed, the avoidance of excessive oxygen entry and a low susceptibility to clogging .
