Horner Mill

The Horner Mühle is a windmill in the Horn-Lehe district of Bremen . Since 1973 it has been listed as an individual monument in the state monument list of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .

history

It was built in 1848/1849. At the end of the 19th century, a steam engine was installed for times of weak wind and a diesel engine in 1926. From 1907 it was run by master miller Lür Kaemena and then from 1936 by his son Johann Kaemena. The grinder was no longer operated with wind since 1933. The mill was renovated from 1966–1968, 1995–1999 and 2016–2017 on the initiative of the Horn-Lehe citizens' association. The local population supported the measures with donations.

Construction, technology

The Horner Mühle is a gallery Dutch type windmill with a three-story, octagonal substructure made of plastered masonry with load-bearing corner pilasters . It is equipped with four louvre blades and automatic wind direction tracking with a compass rose.
