Horst Falkner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Falkner (born April 20, 1939 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian civil engineer and former holder of the chair for solid construction at the 3rd Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

Life

Horst Falkner went to school in Innsbruck (1946–50 Volksschule Innsbruck and 1950–58 Realschule Innsbruck). From 1958 he studied civil engineering at the Graz University of Technology . After obtaining his diploma (1964), he began working for an engineering office in Stuttgart. Falkner did his doctorate in 1969 with Leonhardt and Gieseke on the subject of temperature and crack formation in reinforced concrete construction.

In 1971 Falkner went to Canada. He received a visiting professorship for “prestressed structures” at the University of Toronto . Together with Davenport and Collins he carried out wind measurements at the CN Tower. In 1972 Falkner returned to the engineering office in Germany, where he became a partner in 1978. In 1988 he founded the IBF engineering office with locations in Stuttgart, Braunschweig and Berlin. From 1993 to 1999 Falkner was chairman of the VMPA (Association of Material Testing Institutes) in Germany.

From 1987 to 2007 he held a professorship for solid construction and building construction at the TU Braunschweig; there he became a member of the board of the material testing institute (MPA BS) in Braunschweig. He worked in an interdisciplinary manner and regularly led scientific conferences from which extensive documentation emerged.

From 1990 to 2015 Falkner worked as a building expert in civil protection (Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief).

After his retirement, Falker returned to the IBF Stuttgart, which he headed until 2015.

Honors

In 2005 Falkner received an honorary doctorate from the University of Leipzig.
