In 1971/72 he carried out a fundamental experimental study of creativity techniques with some colleagues, which made him one of the pioneers in this field in Germany. The aims of the study were: to bring together all creativity techniques worldwide, to examine them according to their principles of action, to test them and, from the findings of the experimental sessions, to determine those parameters that influenced the quality and abundance of the ideas produced by the idea generation teams. This led to method improvements and new developments. a. the card circulation technique and several techniques of creative confrontation emerged, e.g. B. the stimulus word analysis and picture folder brainwriting. In addition, he and his team developed scenario technology and other methods of innovation management.
In 1972 he started the first seminar on creativity techniques. Seminars on further methods in the innovation process followed. This resulted in a training program in which training courses in the methods of innovation management were offered and which he and his employees quickly expanded into the field of "Battelle Management Seminars". Since his time in Battelle, he has also organized around 200 "DIFI conferences" (DIFI - Forum for Innovation Management) on the topics of research, development and innovation.
In 1984 Geschka left the Battelle Institute and founded the management consultancy Dr. Horst Geschka (now Geschka & Partner Management Consulting) with a focus on innovation management.
Horst Geschka received a number of teaching positions at the TH Darmstadt, in 1969 initially as a lecturer, from 1992 as an honorary professor.
