The Barrett is a China-built product tanker . The ship was attacked by pirates off Benin in January 2018 .

General

The ship was under the hull number 214 on the shipyard built Baima Shipyard. The keel was laid on June 16, 2004. The ship was delivered on September 21, 2005. It came into service as Watford under the flag of Singapore .

The ship is built as a double hull ship. It was initially classified by Lloyd's Register . The classification was changed to the American Bureau of Shipping in September 2006 .

The ship was arrested in Malta in November 2012 and later auctioned.

The ship has been operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands since September 2013 . The ship is owned by Oblue at Wembley . It is operated by Union Maritime at Wembley. The ship is managed by V.Ships Ship Management in Chennai .

Pirate attack

The ship was attacked by pirates on January 10, 2018 in the bay of Benin in the roadstead off Cotonou and hijacked with 22 people on board. The ship and crew were released on January 16. The circumstances surrounding the release remained unclear.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the vessel by a six-cylinder - diesel engine of the type MAN B & W 6S35MC with 4440  kW power . The engine, which was built under license in China by Yichang Marine Diesel Engine Plant, operates on a fixed pitch propeller . The ship reaches a speed of around 13  knots . Three diesel generators, each with an output of 250 kW, are available for power generation.

The cargo can be transported in five tanks . The total capacity of the tanks is 13,855 m³ (98% full). In addition, two slop tanks can be used for cargo transport. The capacity of the slop tanks is just under 495 m³ (98% full). The ship is equipped with three pumps for cargo handling, which can be operated in parallel. The capacity of the pumps is 500 m³ / hour each. The hose cranes installed on the manifolds can each lift 5 t.
