Horst Todt

Horst Todt (born September 30, 1935 in Irfersgrün ) is a German neuropediatrician and epileptologist .

Life

Todt completed his studies in human medicine, which he was only able to take up with delay for political reasons, in Leipzig and at the Medical Academy Dresden (MAD, later University Clinic of the Technical University), and in 1962 he passed the medical state examination. From 1964 to 1968 the specialist training for pediatrics at the Clinic for Pediatrics of the MAD followed. In 1973 he received the Facultas Docendi for pediatrics and was appointed head of the EEG department. In 1980, Todt completed his habilitation with the thesis "On the late prognosis of childhood epilepsy - results of a prospective longitudinal study", which was one of the few from the GDR at the time that received international attention after its English-language publication. In 1983 Todt was appointed head of the newly established Department of Neuropediatrics, and in 1987 he was appointed university lecturer.

After the reunification of the GDR with the Federal Republic of Germany, he was appointed adjunct professor in 1992 and in 1993 as C3 professor for pediatrics with a focus on neuro and social pediatrics at the medical faculty of the TU Dresden. In 2000 Todt retired, but continued to work there until 2002 due to personnel shortages at the clinic.

Todt is married and has a daughter.

His scientific focus was pediatric epileptology. Todt was u. a. 1993 President of the Society for Neuropediatrics with the organization of the annual conference and publication of the congress report. He has supervised many doctorates and even more EEG trainings and is still actively involved in neuropediatric seminars and advanced training events.

  • 1981: Arthur Schlossmann Prize of the Saxon-Thuringian Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Surgery (for his habilitation thesis)
