Hospitalero

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hospitalero or Hospitalera (female) are called people in Spain who look after a hostel, especially a pilgrims' hostel or, if there is no hostel or if it is closed, they host pilgrims.

In the case of the Spanish Way of St. James , the term includes the people who work free of charge in the operation, maintenance and maintenance of the pilgrimage hostels. You should have already made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and be able to inform pilgrims about the route, infrastructure and expected difficulties regarding the route in their area. They are also intended to help pilgrims understand the history, art and culture of the area around the hostel.

Hospitaleros are recruited partly from former pilgrims who use part of their vacation to support subsequent pilgrims on their way, partly from the local population, partly from the James societies supported by their members run entire hostels on their own (see for example Azofra , Puente de Itero , Rabanal del Camino ).

The umbrella organization of the Spanish St. James Society accepts applications for hospital erosion services, and the German St. James Society also offers support.
