Hossein Sarshar ( Persian حسین سرشار; * 1931 in Tehran ; † April 11, 1992 in Abadan , Iran ) was a Persian- Iranian opera singer ( bass / baritone ) and film actor.

Life

Hossein Sarshar was a famous opera singer in Persia and later in Iran. He completed his vocal studies at the Academy of Arts in Tehran and continued post-graduate studies with Alba Anzellotti at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and with Hélène Bouvier in Paris. Apart from his appearances in Tehran ( Rudaki Hall ), he was a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival from the mid-1970s until the outbreak of the Iranian Revolution . An audition with Herbert von Karajan did not lead to an engagement. He was friends with the filmmaker Parvin Ansary . In the last few years of his life, Sarshar suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

After the revolution, Sarshar joined the Iranian Resistance. He was tortured in captivity and later died in a car accident. It was later revealed that he was killed in a series of car accidents planned by the Department of Intelligence and Security . However, the list of those murdered or missing in connection with the chain killings has a completely different date of death: “Mr. Hossain Sarshar, singer and player, accused of having relation with Mr. Sirjani and after torture was murdered in a made up traffic accident on February 14, 1997 ".
