The Hotel Føroyar

The Hotel Føroyar is a four-star hotel with 216 beds above the Faroese capital Tórshavn .

In addition to the Hotel Hafnia in the center of the capital, it is the only four-star hotel in the country. It is also the largest and youngest (opened in 1983 as Hotel Borg) and architecturally it is one of the most remarkable buildings in the Faroe Islands. It was built according to a design by the architects Friis & Moltke from Denmark . Similar to the House of the North , it is a flat building with a traditional grass roof and blends harmoniously into the landscape. The small forest Viðarlundin í Kerjum extends a little below the hotel .

The elongated complex is enthroned on a slope north of the city on road 10 and offers a view of the entire area with the island of Nólsoy in the background. Most of the panoramic photos of Tórshavn are taken from up here.

Both the first class restaurant (international and Faroese cuisine ) and the rooms offer the same view. Not least because of this, it is a preferred location for conferences, weddings and events of all kinds with locals. The hotel received its fourth star in 2004.

The hotel is currently still owned by the Smyril Line shipping company , but is to be sold in order to refinance the modern Norröna ferry .

Tórshavn Youth Hostel (Vallaraheimið Tórshavn) is located right next to Hotel Føroyar .
