Hotel Habana Libre
The Hotel Habana Libre was the largest hotel in Cuba before the opening of Playa Pescadero . It is located in the Vedado district of the capital Havana . As Havana Hilton , it was opened in March 1958 - like every hotel in the chain built during its lifetime - by Conrad Hilton , the founder of the Hilton Group. It was founded in October 1960 by the government of Fidel Castro nationalized and shortly after the Revolution as headquarters used. It has been operated by the Spanish Meliá Group under the name Tryp Habana Libre since 1996 .
