Hotel Mario is a puzzle - video game , developed by Fantasy Factory and published by Philips and Nintendo for the CD-i in the year 1994th

Gameplay

The main character in the video game is Mario , who has to cross seven hotels to save Princess Peach . Each hotel is divided into levels and is governed by a Koopaling. The goal of the levels is to close every door. At the end of the level of a hotel, Mario has to face the respective Koopaling. Defeating the Koopaling takes the player to the nearest hotel.

background

After Nintendo decided against Philips creating a commercial for the Super Famicom , Nintendo gave the company permission to use their characters on Philips CD-i game consoles . The game just went through a simple development. Nintendo was little involved in the development.

reception

The game was heavily criticized because it looked to many as a copy of the Mario franchise . Hotel Mario is considered one of the worst Mario-based video games, due to the animation of the closing doors, the poor controls and especially because of the cutscenes that are parodied and corrupted on YouTube to this day . The CD-i was also considered a commercial flop .
