The Hotel Management School Thun is a German-speaking higher technical school of the Swiss hotel business association Hotelleriesuisse , which prepares students for the functions in the hospitality industry. It is recognized by the federal government and supported by the public sector.
Course
In the first semester, the three-year course focuses on theoretical (8 weeks) and practical kitchen training (16 weeks). Cooks with a federal certificate of competence as well as applicants with an equivalent training are exempt from this and can start directly in the second semester. In the 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters there are theoretical lessons in the areas of gastronomy and hotel business, economics and law, as well as language and communication. Semesters 3 and 5 are internship semesters that are completed in different departments of a hotel or restaurant depending on previous training. The Hotel Management School Thun is the only hotel management school in Switzerland where the course can also be completed part-time in 6 semesters. The alumni of the Thun Hotel Management School include Ivo Adam and Andreas Studer .
In the future, a hotel and serviced apartments will be built in the existing buildings of the Thun hotel management school. The Lab Hotel will have 52 hotel rooms and 13 serviced apartments, which are primarily geared towards longer stays. At the same time, the hotel will be the third place of learning for the students in addition to school lessons and (internship) operations. There is also a Campus Lab with 29 rooms for students. A modern restaurant, a coffee bar and co-working spaces, which are designed for work and training, complete the overall offer. Together with industry partners from the hotel and catering industry, ideas on sustainability, sleeping, digitization, community and new service quality are tested in the laboratory hotel.

After passing the diploma examination, students are entitled to use the protected and federally recognized title of “qualified hotelier-restaurateur HF” or “qualified hotelier-restaurateur HF”.
