Hott carrier or Butt carriers are, workers in the vintage carry the reading material in a container, the so-called Hotte or Butte, on the back.

These hot tubs have a volume of around 60 to 80 liters and are still used today in steep-slope viticulture , but have now been partly replaced by plastic stacking containers that are easier to transport with cog railways. Common names are also Logel , Legel or Butten , depending on the area . They used to be made of wood or wicker, later made of sheet metal or aluminum and are now usually made of durable fiberglass.

A back basket made of wicker is also called a crab or kötze , in Switzerland Tschifere . These backpack containers were not only used to harvest the ripe grapes, they were generally tools for transporting tools (hoes, shovels, sickles) and were used to carry back washed-away earth or to take weeds and vine shoots home with them as fodder. In addition to viticulture , they were also used by mountain farmers to carry hay into the valley.
