The Hottinger & Cie AG was one of the investment advisory and asset management specialist Swiss private bank .

The bank was founded in Zurich in 1968 . However, its roots go back to the Banque Hottinguer founded by Hans Konrad Hottinger in Paris in 1786 . This came from the Hottinger family dynasty, documented in Zurich since 1362, and was ennobled in 1810 by the French Emperor Napoleon I , who gave him the hereditary barony ( Baron de l'Empire ). In 1784 Hottinger had settled in Paris, where he was called Jean-Conrad and for reasons of pronunciation there the family name was changed from 1799 with an u to Hottinguer.

After more than 180 years of banking tradition in Paris, the descendants of the former Zurich bourgeois family came back to Zurich and from 1968 acted as private bankers under the name Hottinger & Compagnie . In 2010 the bank , which had previously been organized as a limited partnership with unrestricted and jointly liable partners, was converted into a stock corporation with the name Hottinger & Cie AG . The company has been operating under the name Bank Hottinger & Cie AG since 2012 . In addition to its headquarters in Zurich, the bank is present in Geneva , Basel , Sion , Brig and New York .

In the spring of 2013, the legally independent Geneva-based asset management company Hottinger & Partners AG was involved in a fraud scandal. Fabien Gaglio , who previously worked for Hottinger & Cie, confessed in 2013 that he had embezzled money from his customers at the time amounting to more than 100 million francs.

On October 26, 2015, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority declared bankruptcy over the bank. The bank is threatened with over-indebtedness. A renovation had been examined, but could not be achieved.
