Hovnan Derderian

Hovnan Derderian (baptized name: Vahram , born December 1, 1957 in Beirut , Lebanon) is the current Archbishop of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in North America (Echmiadzin Catholic).

From 1970 to 1975 he was trained in the theological seminary of the Cilician Catholic and then continued his studies in Etschmiadzin . In 1980 he was Catholicos Vazgen I. for celibate priests ordained and took the monk's name Hovnan on. From 1980 to 1983 he studied in Oxford and from 1983 taught church history and church music in Etschmiadzin. In 1984 he received his doctorate in Vardapet . From 1984 he worked as a pastor in Canada. In 1990 he was elected Primate of the Diocese of Canada and ordained a bishop on October 7, 1990 by Vazken I in Etschmiadzin . In 1993 he received the title of Archbishop. On May 3, 2005, the Annual Assembly of the Western Diocese of the United States elected him their primate.
