Howelsen Hill is a facility with seven ski jumping hills in the city of Steamboat Springs in the US state of Colorado .
history
For the Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival in 1914 a ski jump was built in an area known as Elk Park . The main reason for the great interest in skiing were the ideas of the Norwegian immigrant and ski jumper Carl Howelsen . A significant contribution to the development of skiing in Colorado is ascribed to the later namesake of the hill .
Between 1916 and 1918, three ski flying world records were set at the facility . In the course of time, several work had to be carried out on the hill in order to adapt it to the FIS requirements that were repeatedly issued. In the 1970s, after a fire, a new building was necessary, in the course of which the seven current ski jumps were built by 1978. Since the HS 75 was covered with mats in 2005, it can be used all year round.
In addition to competitions in Nordic Combined, many national championships were held on the hill .
