The Howtwa (Ukrainian Говтва , historically Ukrainian Голтва , Russian Голтва , Polish Oltwa ) is a left tributary of the Psels with a length of about 112 km. The upper course dries up during the summer months, so that the river only carries water all year round below the village of Schowtnewe . The river has a low gradient, which is why the banks are very swampy. A larger tributary is the 86 km long Wilchowa Howtwa .
In 1530 a battle between Poles and Tatars took place on the river . A larger town on Howtwa is the urban-type settlement Reshetylivka . The town of Howtwa , located at the estuary, is of historical importance .
