Huang Yueying

Huang Yueying ( Chinese  黄月英 , Pinyin Huáng Yùeyīng ; † 234 ) was the daughter of Huang Chengyan ( 黃承彥 ) and the wife of the famous Shu strategist Zhuge Liang . Her father was a well-known scholar from Longzhong Headquarters who later served in the Wu Dynasty and helped Commander-in-Chief Lu Xun to get through the Stone Warrior formation at the Battle of Yiling .

Huang Yueying was considered very gifted. To get the men to admire her for her skills and not for her looks, she let it be rumored that she was quite unattractive. The only man who then courted her was Zhuge Liang. He took her as his wife in 197 even before joining Liu Bei . It is noteworthy that Zhuge Liang had no other wives or concubines in his entire life , although this was common among powerful men of his time.

Huang Yueying gave birth to a son, Zhuge Zhan, to Zhuge Liang . She was also Zhuge Qiao's stepmother , whom Zhuge Liang adopted. After Zhuge Liang died shortly before the battle on the Wu Zhang Plains , she died too.
