The Huazhu Group is a Chinese hotel group formerly known as the China Lodging Group .

According to his own statement, company founder Ji Qi came up with the idea of starting the hotel business after reading a book about the success of the French hotel chain Accor with simply furnished hotels in the lower price segment. Since the end of 2014 there has been an alliance between Accor and Huazhu, under which Huazhu in China is able to operate hotels under the names Mercure , Novotel and Ibis . During fiscal year 2018, 692 of the Huazhu Group's hotels were rented, while only 7 hotels were owned by the company itself.
