The Travco Group is a travel and tourism group from Egypt with headquarters in the city ​​of October 6 (a suburb of the city of El-Sheikh Zayed, northwest of Cairo in the governorate of al-Jiza ). The Travco Group was founded in 1979 and is owned and managed by Hamed El Chiaty. The Travco Group has approximately 16,000 employees. The turnover in 2008 was around 4.8 billion Egyptian pounds (around 600 million euros). With a market share of over 15%, Travco has been the largest Egyptian tourism group for many years.

At the beginning of March 2007, the Travco Group acquired a 3.12 percent stake in TUI AG , but sold it again in mid-May 2008. In mid-August 2009 it became known that the Travco Group had taken over a 99.6 percent stake in the Steigenberger Hotels chain from the Steigenberger family . It sold this to the Chinese Huazhu Group in November 2019 .

Travel and tourism

This division contributes over 77 percent to sales and 29 percent to the Group's EBITDA . It is divided into four sub-segments: destination management , aviation, tourist transport and complementary activities.

Destination management

  • Travco Travel : The subsidiary acting as a travel agency operator and tour operator is the "flagship" of the division. It operates in the inbound and outbound sectors in Egypt , Oman , Qatar , Syria and the United Arab Emirates and also has several agencies in Germany, Great Britain, Japan and China. Since 2008 the expansion activities in Germany and Great Britain have been intensified. Together with Alpitour Egypt and Touring international, Travco Travel has one of the largest market shares in the most important countries of origin of the Egyptian tourism industry with over one million tourists and around three million overnight stays (as of 2007).
  • Adventure Holidays : offers various types of adventure travel through Egypt.
  • Touring international : Incoming agency
  • Alpitour Egypt : Cooperation partner of the Italian tourism group Alpitour .

Tourist transport

  • Travtrans and Travco New Transport : stop over 600 coaches in Egypt.
  • Limo 1 and Prestige Cars : hold hundreds of rental cars and limousines.

gastronomy

  • Aegyptus Papyrus : sells modern papyrus paintings in several galleries that are close to tourist hot spots (Giże, Luxor , Aswan , Madinat Makadi )
  • Kyphi : Perfume shop in Aswan
  • Fifth Avenue : Jewelry store in Cairo's Mohandeseen shopping district, exclusive distribution of various luxury brands in Egypt

Others

  • Safe Guard Security is a security service provider, founded initially for its own companies and hotels, now also working for external clients and one of the largest companies in the industry in Egypt.
  • Travco Marina operates the marina in Sharm El Sheikh.

accommodation

With around 60 percent of sales and 73 percent of EBITDA and net profit (as of December 2007), this division is the most important branch of the group. It is further divided into the sectors Hotels & Resorts and Cruises.

Hotels & Resorts

  • Jaz , Sol Y Mar , Iberotel : The three chains that cooperate with TUI operate over 40 hotels in Egypt and make Travco one of the leading providers in Egypt's most important tourist centers. Four major construction projects have been completed so far: the resorts Madinat Makadi in Hurghada , Almaza Bay in Mersa Matruh , Madinat Coraya in Marsa Alam and Mirabel Resort in Nabq / Sharm El-Sheikh . A first five-star hotel was built in the United Arab Emirates , and further hotels are planned in the Middle East and, by 2012, in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
  • Steigenberger Hotels AG (with the new umbrella brand Deutsche Hospitality ): From mid-2009 to 2019, Travco owned a share of 99.6 percent

Cruises

  • Travcotels operates more than 20 ships with over 1,300 places, with around 7 percent market share the largest cruise fleet on the Nile .

Real estate and construction

  • Travco Properties : Founded in 2006, develops and builds large resorts for upper-class summer residences in the major tourism and leisure regions of Egypt. So far, the two resorts Almaza Bay near Marsa Matruh on the Egyptian north coast and Madinat Makadi (in Makadi Bay ) on the Red Sea have been realized . Further projects in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and in the outskirts of Cairo are being planned.
  • Travco Engineering & Construction : Founded in 2006 to market Travco-developed real estate projects in Egypt and abroad. Owns properties in the resorts of Almaza Bay near Marsa Matruh on the north coast of Egypt and Madinat Makadi (in Makadi Bay) on the Red Sea.
