al-Jiza ( Arabic محافظة الجيزة Muhāfazat al-Jīza , DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Ǧīza , Egyptian-Arabic : ig-Gīza ) is a governorate in Egypt with 8,632,021 inhabitants.

It borders in the north on the governorates of al-Buhaira and al-Minufiyya , in the east on the governorate al-Qahira , in the southeast on the governorates of al-Fayyum , Bani Suwaif and al-Minya , in the south on the governorate al-Wadi al- jadid and in the northwest to the governorate of Matruh .

The governorate comprises the western part of the metropolitan area of ​​Greater Cairo including the city of al-Giza , which is also the administrative center of the governorate, the areas south of al-Giza including the city of Madinat al-Sadis min Uktubar and the Memphite necropolis and since 1968 in the Libyan desert the area of ​​the road to Bahariyya oasis and the al-Bahriyya valley itself.
