Dumyat ( Arabic محافظة دمياط Muhāfazat Dumyāt , DMG Muḥāfaẓat Dumyāṭ ) or Damiette is a governorate in Egypt with 1,496,765 inhabitants and is located in the eastern Nile Delta .

It borders the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Ad-Daqahliyya Governorate to the south . The administrative center is Dumyat (Damietta).
