The Hubba Bubba brand is a chewing gum made by the US confectionery manufacturer Wrigley . The brand was introduced in Germany in 1978 and in the USA in 1979. It is produced by the manufacturer in various countries around the world and sold in 80 countries, although the respective range may differ.

The brand was discontinued in the United States in the early 1990s but continued under the Hubba Bubba Max name in 2004 , now a combination of two flavors. The brand is also present in the Canadian market.

Compared to other chewing gum, Hubba Bubba can be used to create particularly large chewing gum bubbles. The manufacturer states that the chewing gum does not stick much and that it is easier to remove burst chewing gum bubbles from the face.

The brand's first chewing gum came in two flavors. Peppermint (green pack, white chewing gum) and fruit (pink pack, pink chewing gum), later different varieties that are largely based on fruit flavors . For a long time, the product was only sold in a pack containing five chewing gum. To date, however, numerous other product and packaging variants have been added.

  • Hubba Bubba Klassik has been sold in a pack of 5 with changing flavors since 1978.
  • Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape was introduced in 2002, the chewing gum rolled up to a 1.80 m long tape is offered in a colorful plastic dispenser.
  • Hubba Bubba Mix & Match was sold in early 2005 as a cigarette-like packet, separated in the middle. In each side there were chewing gum pellets with one flavor each.
  • Hubba Bubba Max has been combining two fruit flavors in one two-tone chewing gum since the beginning of 2006.
  • Hubba Bubba Glop has been sold since the end of 2006 as a particularly large, round chewing gum with a liquid core that tastes like a fruit.

Hubba Bubba was initially advertised with the comic characters Hubba and Bubba . From 2003 to 2008, other cartoon characters presented the brand. Initially, these characters were called Hubba Bubba Five . Over the years they evolved into the Hubba Bubba Gang , which consisted of two boys, two girls (twins) and a dog. Since 2008, the original comic characters Hubba and Bubba have been used again, this time in a different, angular shape and as clay figures.

According to the Wrigley website, the “world's largest bubble gum bubble” with a diameter of 58.4 centimeters, named in the Guinness Book of Records , was achieved with three Hubba Bubbas .

In the 1980s, a Hubba-Bubba radio play appeared on the German market under the title “ Hubba + Bubba - The Secret of Dondra”, a studio EUROPA production . The playing time was 50 minutes. At first this radio play was only available after sending in a coupon that could be found in children's magazines. Later it was available in stores for a short time.
