Hubert Bruls

Hubertus Maria Franciscus (Hubert) Bruls (born February 6, 1966 in Nuth ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appèl (CDA) and mayor of the municipality of Nijmegen since 2012 .

Life

Bruls grew up in the southeast of the Netherlands, in the province of Limburg , and attended the episcopal college in Sittard from 1978 to 1984 . He then studied political science for eight years at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen . Bruls has been a member of the CDA since 1986. His career began in 1993 with the civil servants' association NOVON / ABVAKABO until he was elected to the council of the municipality of Nijmegen in the 1998 local elections . After a short time in 1999 he took over the position of an alderman in the College van burgemeester en wethouders of the municipality of Nijmegen and held this until the end of the legislative period until 2002. He then sat between 2002 and 2005 as a member of the CDA in the Second Chamber . On October 1, 2005, Bruls was appointed Mayor of Venlo and headed this office until May 2012, after he was proposed as the new Mayor of Nijmegen on March 2 of the same year. He has held this position since May 21, 2012 and was appointed for a further six years in 2018 after his first term in office.
