Hubert Cecil Booth (born July 4, 1871 in Gloucester / Gloucestershire, † January 12, 1955 in Purley Surrey ) was an English engineer .

He designed and patented (only in England) the vacuum cleaner in 1901 , which was initially transported on horse-drawn carts to financially better off customers. Dust was vacuumed there with long hoses. However, it did not have much commercial success. His former company, the Booth Vacuum Cleaner Company, still produces industrial vacuum cleaners to this day (2006). As chief designer, he later played a key role in the construction of the Ferris wheel in Vienna's Prater .
