from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hubert Neumann (* 1963 in Mainz ) is a German historian, contemporary author and columnist.

Life

Neumann studied Middle and Modern History, Philosophy, Sociology and Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . In the context of the history of mentality and historical criminology , he investigated in a case study (social disciplining in the imperial city of Speyer in the 16th century. St. Augustin 1997) civilization and disciplining of early modern man. This led him to his historical trilogy "Wolkenschieber", for which he received the Martha-Saalfeld-Förderpreis in 2001 . With “Lust Hang” he leaves the historical environment and moves into the present, where he traces the depths or abysses of the consequences of this disciplining process. Since 2009 he has been a lecturer in academic writing and a columnist for the local newspaper and the Mainz quarterly magazine for culture, politics, economics and history.
