Hubert Schreiner (born November 1, 1949 ) is an Austrian basketball official as well as a former trainer and player. He acted as chairman of the Austrian Basketball Association until March 2019.

Career

During his playing career, Schreiner took part with Austria in the 1968 European Junior Championship in Spain. He played for his home club UKJ St. Pölten (from 1959) and in the Bundesliga (from 1968) for the sports club Vienna Ministry of Commerce as well as Union Firestone and Union Hernals. After his return to St. Pölten, Schreiner was initially a player- coach from 1975 to 1986 (between 1982 and 1984 he was also head of the Austrian national team ), and after his playing career ended in 1986, he was exclusively head coach. In 1980, St. Pölten made the leap into the top division under Schreiner. After relegation in the following year, he was promoted to the top division again in 1990. He led the team to win the Austrian championship title for the first time in 1993, and under his leadership St. Pölten also became champions in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 (1998 as sports director). In addition to a carpenter, Neno Ašćerić, as St. Pölten's outstanding player, was the defining figure of this era.

In 2000, Schreiner resigned as a coach, but took over the office again in 2003 and led the team, which was now playing in the second division, back to the upper house in 2004. Schreiner, who was awarded the gold medal of honor by the Austrian Basketball Association in 2005, initially trained in St. Pölten until 2006 and then coached the Austrian national team for the second time between 2006 and 2008 (his first term of office was from 1984 to 1986). From 2009 he was back on the bench in St. Pölten. In August 2012 he gave up the post of head coach to Uros Vukadinovic . In April 2014, Schreiner returned at short notice as head coach at the bank of his home club. As the chairman of the St. Pölten sports performance model, he played a key role in promoting young talent in St. Pölten.

In April 2015, Schreiner was elected chairman of the Austrian Basketball Association (ÖBV), from 1995 to 1997 he was ÖBV vice-president and from 1993 to 1995 sports director of the association. At the end of March 2019, he resigned as chairman and was appointed honorary president of the ÖBV.
