Thomas Schreiner (* 3. February 1987 in St. Poelten ) is an Austrian basketball player at the position of the building player . His height is 1.95 meters.

Career

Schreiner comes from the youth department of the UKJ St. Pölten . In the 2004/05 season he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga . He left St. Pölten in 2006 and spent the 2006/07 season with league rivals BSC Raiffeisen Panthers Fürstenfeld , but returned to his home club after a year. In 2011, Schreiner moved from St. Pölten to the Kapfenberg Bulls , with whom he played the 2011/12 season.

The move abroad followed for the 2012/13 season, Schreiner joined BC Andorra . With the club, he became champion of the second Spanish league in 2014, rose to the ACB league , Spain's top division, and was named the best European player in the second Spanish league this season by the internet portal eurobasket.com . He was the first native Austrian to play in the first Spanish league. Schreiner managed to stay in the ACB league with Andorra in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.

In the summer of 2017, Schreiner moved to the ACB promoted CB Atapuerca in Burgos and left the club during the summer break of 2018 for the second division club CB Bilbao Berri .

National team

Schreiner was a member of the Austrian junior national teams and top performers in the ÖBV selection at the U18 European Championship (B group) in 2005 and the U20 European Championships in 2006 and 2007 (both B group). In 2006 he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time and later served as team captain.

Personal

His father Hubert Schreiner has been President of the Austrian Basketball Association since April 2015 and was the team leader of the Austrian national team and head coach in St. Pölten.
